Nuvei has begun processing merchant transactions via Wero, the European Payment Initiative’s digital wallet that delivers instant account-to-account payments across Europe.
One of the first eCommerce merchants to start accepting Wero in its online checkout via Nuvei is CamperDays, an online campervan rental platform, Nuvei said in a Wednesday (Nov. 19) press release.
“Adding Wero as a payment option through Nuvei gives our customers a fast, trusted way to pay directly from their bank accounts,” CamperDays Managing Director Max Schmidt said in the release. “Offering more choice at checkout helps us meet diverse preferences and deliver the best possible booking experience.”
EPI rolled out Wero in Germany in 2024 and then expanded the service to other European countries, according to the PYMNTS Intelligence and The Clearing House collaboration “Real-Time Payments World Map.”
Designed to create a unified European payment system, Wero enables rapid peer-to-peer transactions via QR codes, email addresses or phone numbers, according to the report.
Wero now has over 46 million users in Europe, and the digital wallet has enabled over 100 million P2P transactions valued at over $5 billion euros (about $5.8 billion), according to Nuvei’s press release.

“Seeing Wero live in eCommerce checkouts through Nuvei is an exciting milestone for European payments,” EPI CEO Martina Weimert said in the release. “Wero simplifies the payment experience for consumers while providing merchants with a cost-efficient alternative to traditional cards.”
Nuvei was among the first payment processors to complete a Wero transaction in a testing environment, and the company is now one of the first to begin processing merchant transactions, per the release.
“Going live with Wero is another example of how Nuvei enables merchants to offer the most advanced and locally relevant payment methods through a single integration,” Nuvei Chair and CEO Phil Fayer said in the release. “Today’s consumers expect flexibility, speed and security at checkout, and Wero delivers on all three.”
Nuvei said in May that it had joined EPI and planned to enable eCommerce businesses to accept Wero in their online checkouts. The company said it would begin pilot programs of the digital wallet in May and then make the capability generally available for merchants.
